A-Frame

The A-Frame model reinterprets the classic cabin typology through the lens of restraint, precision, and formal clarity. Rooted in the familiar steeply pitched form, this model distills the A-frame to its most essential elements of structure, enclosure, and light, while refining each through careful proportioning and material discipline.

Elevated lightly above the ground on slender steel columns, the building minimizes its footprint and acts to preserves the natural ecology of the site. The exterior is expressed as a continuous, weather-resistant envelope allowing superior protection from the elements.

The interior unfolds as a warm, cohesive volume lined in natural wood, where the geometry of the A-frame structure is fully legible and celebrated. With a total gross floor area of approximately 1250 square feet, the model was designed as a two-bedroom residence combined with a double height gathering space extending outward into a large outdoor viewing platform. The spatial organization takes advantage of the full height spaces by creating a compact, yet expansive interior defined by vertical volume and visual continuity. Light enters primarily through the large, glazed end wall which animates the interior surfaces as well as establishing a strong connection to the surrounding environment. The open great room is balanced with more flexible living spaces and intimate zones all tucked within an efficiently structural envelope.
